This recipe is always a hit with my family and friends. I brand it without the MSG and onion salt. I always double this recipe, considering it's never enough, use 2 green onions, 1 one/2 Tblsp. Worchesteshire sauce and the "family unit size" pack of dried beef. Reserve a little of the beef to roll the ball in...it makes a pretty presentation. Nifty with wheat crackers!
11/09/2006
Yummmm! This is my married man'd favorite yr subsequently twelvemonth. It'a always the first 1 gone. This is such adept stuff for such an easy recipe to do. The directions don't say it but that y'all have to rinse the salt from the beef get-go and then chop the beef into tiny pieces. I reserved some of the chopped stale beef to roll the finished assurance in. Great with veggie sticks, Wheat Thins Big crackers and Triscuit crackers. I made ii smaller cheese balls. A keeper ... great meat and cheese ball recipe!
03/17/2005
Very quick and easy recipe. Delicious. I did leave out monosodium glutamate and used onion powder instead of onion salt. I received tons of compliments on this cheese brawl!
12/04/2002
This is the worst recipe I have always tried! It sounded great & I made it for an OFFICE TEA-it was and then bad that everyone threw information technology out!I knew it didn't taste practiced to me, only it was to late to practise anything simply accept it-I would non recommend anyone trying this, yous will be wasting Cream Cheese & Dried Beef.
01/04/2001
wonderful!! this is likewise what I apply for "pivot-wheels". but spread thin on tortillas whorl up and toss in the refrigerator for a while, slice into little "pin wheels" and watch your snack tray empty in minutes at any party!!!!
01/21/2010
I've used a similar recipe for years. I use ii pkg. cream cheese to dried beef, green onion to taste and worchestershire sauce. NO common salt or MSG is needed.
12/20/2001
This family unit must have been denied salt as children. Every ingredient has common salt. You have to beverage a lot of liquor non to find this baby's real taste. Yuck!
09/09/2002
This is a wonderful cheeseball! Exactly what I was looking for, and it was a huge hit at my best friend's conjugal shower. I added virtually a teaspoon of horseradish for a picayune actress seize with teeth.
12/27/2008
I only gave this 4 stars because if I wouldn't accept read the reviews of other similar recipes before manus I would have too added the onion salt and information technology would take been as well salty. I also omitted the MSG because it'south simply not needed. I've made this before merely just checked the recipe to ensure I had all ingredients right. Its too salty for certain if you add together the onion salt, so I simply omit it. You tin't tell the difference. Sometimes I simply add a few more than onions to the mixture. It's important to use room temperature cream cheese in order to be able to mix it easily. Easy recipe, great taste!
02/21/2006
This was wonderful. I took others suggestions and skipped table salt & msg and added garlic powder.
11/26/2005
This is a favorite! I altered information technology a niggling the 2nd fourth dimension I made information technology. I added viii oz of sour cream, used 6 oz of beefiness and instead of green onion, I used one tablespooon of minced horsey for a little zing! (I omitted the monosodium glutamate) I served it with the new Garlic Butter Ritz crackers! It was gone in no time!
12/27/2009
I have been making this recipe for nearly 18 years, (I started when I was a kid with my mom). SANS MSG. Information technology is so practiced, information technology's the only cheese brawl I make, and every time I take it to a party I always get asked for the recipe. At one party I had 3 people calling me throughout the next week asking me for the recipe, I didn't even know any of them they just institute out who made the cheese ball from the host and chosen me! Mince upwards near 2 TBPS of White Onion for a dial of flavor! Y'all will be the glory of the party if you bring this!

12/29/2010
This was astonishing. My sister had made it for me a few times merely I had no idea on measurements until I found this on AR. I didn't use the monosodium glutamate or onion common salt merely information technology withal tasted just like hers (which included those.) Added some other 1/2 onion just considering I beloved their flavor. I also took the advice of someone else on here and washed the common salt off the dried beef before chopping it upwards. My iv and 1 year olds also loved this - will get in over again!
11/21/2010
Fabricated a few quick changes - no MSG and just used chive and onion cream cheese. was unproblematic and easy and tasted delicious!
xi/22/2010
I've been making this recipe for years and its E'er a hit! I substitute a few drops of pepper sauce for the worceshire. I see the note most washing the beefiness and I don't agree with that. Use it as information technology is. I'm pretty table salt sensitive nonetheless it seems only fine. I don't use the msg either. This is ane of the easiest recipes!
12/21/2009
This has go a holiday tradition for us! My husband loves this cheese ball and drools over the idea of having it at Christmas. :) I don't apply the MSG. I do shape it into a ball and gyre in chopped pecans. Delicious!!!

04/25/2000
This stuff is the best. It rocks.
12/21/2007
Not bad tasting cheese ball. Possibly the person who gave this a bad rating had used not so adept cream cheese. I personally like to use the very sparse sliced chipped beef or ham(both are good) cutting into very small squares and soaked in worchestershire sauce. I too gyre the ball in the aforementioned beef or ham. Everyone loves information technology!
12/30/2010
Made this for Thanksgiving. Everyone loved it!
11/23/2002
This was a tasty, quick appetizer!
12/22/2011
I looked this recipe up because I had lost my original recipe. I'yard using this on Christmas Eve - minus the MSG. After reading the reviews, I wanted to country that I am non a table salt lover. I will not be calculation the salt or MSG, and I Always rinse the dried beef before calculation. Always turns out perfect for me this fashion. If you want to get extra randy with it...substitute the Worcestershire sauce for Tobasco or Texas Pete. Thanks for posting this recipe! I feared the husband would be going without this year. :)
eleven/07/2010
Information technology was good, and I'll make information technology again. Still, even with the exchange of onion powder for the onion salt, it was crazy-salty. Next time, I'll soak the beef in h2o or milk to leach out some of the salt first. And I'll cut the onion powder in half. I prefer the sense of taste of the fresh green onions. Skilful foundation recipe. :)
02/07/2010
I've been making this for years with a twist to information technology, no msg... plus I add a tsp of horseradish, gives it a punch and everyone loves it.
x/30/2010
Ever a hitting at family gatherings.
x/26/2011
This is a hit at all my get togethers. I leave out the MSG, and I too, rinse the beef before chopping it. Instead of making a "ball" out of it, I shape information technology into a small loaf. Serve with wheat thins, because they aren't very salty.
07/03/2010
My mother has made something like this before. I inverse it upward a bit, by taking out the msg and onion salt, and added shredded italian cheese, garlic pulverisation and italian seasoning.
05/fifteen/2010
This dip was and so salty, and and then when y'all spread it on crackers it was just too much to take. I would brand information technology over again but utilize half of the dried beef or maybe use some other meat.
12/thirteen/2009
I always take this cheese ball to our annual Christmas party and every year information technology'south the kickoff affair gone! I do make a few minor changes. I don't use the MSG and instead of onion common salt I use garlic table salt. After I make the ball I identify it in plastic wrap and form it into a brawl then let it chill in the refrigerator. After a few hours I pull information technology out and roll it in a bowl of sliced almonds for a pretty and succulent presentation. It's a hit!
05/02/2005

12/22/2001
Exellent cheeseball! So tasty, so easy to do, and with ingredients that are and so like shooting fish in a barrel to discover in the grocery store! This tastes better as each day goes by! I surrounded it with Ritz crackers, and it was a striking! I did however, omit the MSG.If y'all are looking for an accommodating, classic cheeseball that is like shooting fish in a barrel to make, and easy to transport, this is it! Even people who commonly don't like cream cheese or drief beef loved this! A keeper!r
12/30/2001
I've been using this same recipe for years. Information technology's always a hit at gatherings. I don't utilize the monosodium glutanate, and sometimes I add a little garlic salt instead of onion salt. Either way, it'southward very good.
12/17/2011
I similar to rinse and dry beef in a newspaper towel this volition cut down on salt, instead of onion salt i like to utilize garlic powder (or fresh) and just use accent if making couple days ahead. My son who dont normally eat this kind of stuff loves it.
12/15/2002
This was a very prissy basic recipe that I played with a niggling and came up with a winner. I doubled the recipe, only didn't have more chipped beef, and then I used the Buddig corned beef that comes in a package. Also, the onion salt didn't add enough season for me, so I added most a 1/2 teaspoon of garlic table salt too. I used boosted chopped beef and pressed it onto the outside, along with some dried parsley, that fabricated a nice presentation. Yummy!
07/04/2003
If you like dried beef, y'all'll LOVE this cheese brawl. It is a niggling salty though. The side by side time, I think I'll try washing the stale beef before I chop it or peradventure buy the lower sodium dried beefiness. As well, I added 1/4 tsp. onion powder instead of onion common salt. This recipe does non need any added common salt of any kind! I as well added ane/4 tsp. of garlic powder for added flavour. My daughter and I dear this dip and will definitely make information technology again!!
09/03/2009
I take been making this for our Christmas Eve Party for near ten years and it is always a massive hit. I cannot believe someone rated this as atrocious! I tin can but say that they must have really screwed it upwardly, which seems incommunicable. This recipe, or i very close to it since nosotros ever add a picayune garlic powder, was so popular with my sister in Britain that we accept to mail her care packages of dried beef so she can make it back home.
01/27/2003
My Mom had a similar recipe a few years ago that nosotros misplaced, so I was really glad to encounter this recipe. I fabricated it on New year's day's Day, and I didn't take any leftovers.
xi/thirty/2000

09/nineteen/2005
This is a great cheese ball. I too employ onion powder instead of salt and leave out the MSG...it's simply not necessary. Great with buttery round crackers!
07/30/2010
This cheese ball is ever a favorate! It is also dorm/pocket-sized kitchen friendly. But... I do change a fiddling bit, instead of onion salt, I use garlic powder since at that place is a lot of saly in the stale bit beef. I don't apply the glutamate... and to brand the pieces overnice and small to more evenly mix I put them in a minor food processor.
03/10/2004
This was such a yummy cheese ball. Everyone who tried information technology couldn't stop eating it.
12/21/2002
This is so skilful and easy! I go out out the MSG and just add together a pinch of garlic powder. Great with Ritz crackers.
08/12/2002
I liked the texture but I recollect the corporeality of Worchestershire sauce chosen for made it too dominant and salty.
08/14/2000
Alert!!!! This stuff is addictive, my coworkers beloved it and so does my family. I think information technology tastes best on wheat crackers.
03/25/2005
This is the best I accept ever had and have enjoyed for years....
02/22/2004
WAS NOT THAT VERY GOOD LESS ONION AND MSG AND IT WOULD BE FINE
10/28/2001
This is e'er a favorite! I roll mine in chopped pecans after making the cheese ball. EXCELLENT
12/16/2011
I thought I'd made a mistake, with then many high ratings, however mine tasted NASTY! I double-checked my measurements against the recipe - aforementioned sizes/weight. I did noticed after the fact the jar said to soak meat in warm water for recipes, which was NOT included in the directions. I'thou guessing this is 1 of those dips that one grows up on? So if yous're like me and didn't abound up eating this, test it in private first. Because I had to add some other block of cream cheese, then a chip of sugar to commencement the still-super-salty taste before it was fifty-fifty barely edible. If soaking makes the difference, then this recipe did Not say to do then.
12/27/2010
I'd give it a 0 if I could. Who makes annihilation for a family dinner with MSG anymore? This cheese brawl gave my brother a serious migraine.
04/10/2003
We've used a similar recipe for years simply I misplaced it and used this one recently. I left out the MSG and added a little garlic powder. It's corking with wheat thins!
12/29/2001
Everyone loves this cheese ball. I don't add the MSG, but it tastes great. I always double the recipe because it does not brand enough.
ten/eighteen/2006
I add chopped pimentos to this cheeseball to give more of the "red" and "green" colors for Christmas. My daughter gets downright upset if there isn't i on the titbit table at Christmas!
09/13/2011
I used this at a party before and it is wonderful and goes over very well!
11/10/2011

11/27/2010
The other ladies are right - don't add the onion common salt or MSG. Make information technology the night before and your favors will have time to meld. I similar to roll in parmesan cheese.
04/10/2000
A really quick and easy recipe. It's e'er been a favorite with our family!!
x/25/2007
This was an easy recipe to make and most people liked information technology. I don't know if I would brand this to take to a party over again.
12/26/2010
This cheese brawl is always a hit. I apply ruddy onions instead of green. I add a little bit of horseradish and do not use monododium glutamate. I likewise utilize a petty extra Worcestershire sauce.
01/01/2009
I didn't use the MSG. Even subsequently rinsing all the beef, I still found this likewise salty. I recommend using onion powder not onion salt.
xi/09/2004
This recipe was outstanding! I added chives and rolled the finished ball in chopped pecans. A real crowd pleaser!
xi/08/2009
Just boilerplate (followed recommendations to add garlic powder and omit MSG). No large flavour in this recipe. Won't make it once again
11/29/2000
nice and easy! My offset cheeseball recipe and it was succulent.
12/xx/2002
This so far is the best cream cheese & dried beef version
05/31/2001
This cheese brawl was a hitting. I doubled the recipe, omited the MSG, and only used 2-two.5 oz. pkgs. of dried beef since that's the size they came in. I likewise rolled the cheese ball in dried parsley and dill (though fresh would be good too). Very delicious and easy.
eleven/23/2011
Accept made this recipe (without the MSG) for years and information technology'south e'er a huge hitting! I as well substitute garlic powder for the onion common salt as at that place'south plenty of common salt in the beef.
10/15/2014
I have been using this recipe for over twenty years. Mine is a little different. I do not use the MSG why would you? I apply 1 tsp. garlic salt and use a small minced onion and put 3 tablespoons of sour cream into the mixture. Then I cut piffling squares of dried beef and embrace the outside to make information technology prettier.
02/01/2004
Big hit evertime I brand information technology!! Yummmmm. I end information technology off, by saving enough of dried beef cut into trivial pieces & doing a mosaic on the outside of the ball. (I use the Inexpensive - just very good - store brand in the lunchmeat department)
02/09/2001
Splendid
01/25/2009
Like shooting fish in a barrel and succulent. This is probably my favorite kind of cheese ball. Information technology was a big hit at the party.
01/02/2003
This is Smashing, everyone loved information technology. I will exist making this a lot!!!
12/25/2008
I was happy to find this recipe on this web site!!! We made a couple of changes... Omitted the MSG Didn't add the dried beef (couldn't detect it at the local grocery) Put it in a basin instead of forming into a ball
04/27/2008
So Yummy!!! I made just as the recipe stated without the MSG.
12/thirty/2006
I didn't have onion salt, and then I used onion powder and added garlic powder. Instead of MSG I added a tiny fleck of season common salt. This recipe was a HUGE hit at the school Christmas political party. Not only did people rave, but I made a double batch that was virtually completely gone--at a pot luck, even! It'due south super easy and people loved it! I will DEFINITELY make this again!
05/17/2012
Best cheese ball ever! I started making this about iv years agone and ever since and so i take been asked to go far for every family gathering. i even double the recipe and nigh of the time i demand to make two. Never any leftovers. I never us the MSG.
01/14/2012
Very proficient. I like to leave out the msg.
01/06/2009
Smashing recipe, but I used more greenish onions and omitted the monosodium glutamate. I would let the cheese ball sit down overnight so the flavors meld.
12/12/2011
my only question is why on earth would u want to add a product that is something nearly people are clearly desire to avoid? MSG? Other than that good recipe..communication leave out the MSG.
11/18/2005
It was way too salty. We ended up throwing it all away.
01/07/2012
I normally love Dried Beef Cheese Ball, simply this was very salty equally written. The stale beef provides plenty of common salt. I would suggest substituting the onion salt with onion pulverization or dried chopped onion. I left out the MSG for obvious reasons. The next time I make this I plan on doubling the cream cheese then adding small amounts of the dried beef and onion pulverization until the saltiness is tolerable.
01/01/2005
Awesome!I tripled and froze ii for those care for days at work that sneak up on y'all. Omitted greenish onion and msg, and used onion powder in stead of onion salt, as I find it's salty plenty. Rolled in finely chopped walnuts. Co-workers snarfed this down!
10/01/2007
Information technology was skillful except for the overpowering taste of the Worchestershire sauce. I call back if you lot cut that back to a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon it might not feel like you are drinking it from the canteen. I liked that the recipe was elementary and easy to practice.
eleven/02/2004
I left out the monosodum glutamate and used garlic common salt in place of onion common salt. Best if refrigerated overnight.
04/07/2012
RINSE THE BEEF! If you use the real Stale BEEF, rather than the cheaper smoked beef, it is very salty. I ruined a double batch by not rinsing. Information technology was just to terribly salty. Headed back to store for more beef and rinsed it. Ahhh, success. I don't utilise MSG. I did pick up some horseradish the 2nd trip to the grocery store and added a fleck. Emmm, expert. The dark-green onions are a must. They add nice color and a bit of sweetness. I use all of the onion, white and green. This is so addictive. I've had earlier but never made. At work there was a carry-in for Easter and I could have sat down with a spoon and consumed the whole matter. I asked for the bones receipe, stopped at the store and then checked out allrecipes.com. This is a winner!
02/19/2012
This is our favorite cheeseball recipe! Whenever the family says they're making cheeseball, this is always the 1 that has been made from as far back as I can remember. Ive made others but this ever seems to be the classic that you tin't go without. I dont use the msg. It just depends, merely sometimes the amounts of the green onions and worchestershire sauce are upped :) We always coil the outside in more chipped beef. Dandy cheeseball served with veggies and crackers!
04/17/2012
I make mine without the MSG. I use garlic pulverisation in it instead cause information technology is much healthier than msg.
03/31/2005
This is very adept. I don't add MSG (why would you lot??). I always double the recipe because there is never enough with my family unit, they all savor it!
